Welcome to Keney Park!
Keney Park is the largest park within the City of Hartford Park System, and includes 694 acres in total. The majority of the park is located in Hartford, with a small portion crossing the City line into Windsor. The park provides neighborhood recreation in a historically designed landscape, and is diverse in its topography. The park also has an interesting history not known by many who walk its trails and enjoy its numerous activities.
The majority of the land for Keney Park was left to the City of Hartford by Henry Keney in his will in 1895. For 24 years, the Keney Trustees, who were all relatives of Henry Keney, oversaw the development of the park. In 1924, the Keney Trustees coordinated the transfer of four additional tracts of land to the City. An adjoining parcel of land was donated by Francis Goodwin, and three additional parcels were purchased in subsequent years to expand further the total acreage of the park.
